Would your life be better if you were funnier?

The Humor Research Lab (HuRL) at the University of Colorado Boulder is collaborating with Boulder Startup Week attendees to make the world a more humorous place.

Aside from taking an improv or a stand-up comedy class, people have few options if they want to become funnier. Our proposal is simple: bring together entrepreneurs, programmers, scientists and comedians to create products—tech or otherwise—that help people learn and practice how to be funnier, thus enriching their lives and the lives of people around them.

Sponsored by the Deming Center at the Leeds School of Business, the Humor Hackathon will take place at Quick Left on Tuesday from 6-10 pm. Join us for beer, food, hacking, and a lot of laughs. Don't code? Don't worry. There will be plenty of ways that you can improve your funny bone. You can read more about Peter's quest to find what makes people funny in FiveThirtyEight

Judges include scientists, comedians, startup and tech aficionados: Tara Calihman, Dr. Peter McGraw, and Norm Laviolette, Co-owner of the Improv Asylum and Laugh Boston.

more to be announced!

Sponsors include Cards Against Humanity, Winking Girl Salsa and the Deming Center. Imagine the prizes!

The Global EIR Coalition and Startup Visa Hacking
Limited Capacity seats available

CU Boulder recently launched the Entrepreneurs in Residence program (see http://www.colorado.edu/news/releases/2015/03/30/cu-boulder-program-seeks-bring-national-and-international-entrepreneurs), as a part of the new Global EIR Coalition (see http://feld.com/archives/2015/04/announcing-global-eir-coalition.html). This program allows international entrepreneurs to work for the university part time, and get H1-B visas through the University (uncapped). The rest of their time can be spent starting a company. This event will foster a discussion around this program and other startup visa hacks.

Startup Law 101: Legal Tips Every Startup Should Know
Limited Capacity seats available

Hosted by Congo.io and Modus Law, the Startup Law 101 session will outline topics that every serious entrepreneur should know.

All startups require basic legal services at some point, but few possess the in-house knowledge required to successfully navigate the complex legal industry. When resources are limited, it can be tempting to cut corners, which more often than not results in costly mistakes down the road.

Receive tips from David Cline of Modus Law on how to navigate your startup's legal needs like a pro.

There will be a Q&A session following the talk.

Topic covered may include: How to incorporate, Splitting Equity Among Founders, Fundamentals of Vesting, Patents, Fundraising, and more.

See you there!
