Standing Still While Your Hair's on Fire: Surviving the Startup Life
Join Jerry Colonna, CEO of Reboot, and Matt Stinchcomb, Vice President for Ethics Impact at Etsy, for this interactive discussion on how purpose and values are helping today's top companies navigate the process of going public.
Moderated and hosted by Naropa University President Chuck Lief.
One of the biggest pains for any web host or anyone who is trying to provide a service via servers is storage. Typically storage I/O is the most common bottleneck and can easily bring a perfectly performing network to its knees in a matter of moments.
SolidFire began in January 2010 after founder and CEO Dave Wright (@jungledave) started a company called Jungle Disk in 2007. Wright went on to sell that backup solution to Rackspace in 2008. After working closely with the Rackspace Cloud division to build a large-scale cloud platform supporting tens of thousands of users, Wright left Rackspace to start SolidFire.
Being placed in charge of figuring out all of the storage needs of a large web host, Wright developed a checklist for what was needed to solve all the storage solution challenges across multiple platforms. The problem Wright faced was he literally sought out every hardware vendor across the world, and he couldn’t find one solution that could solve all of the problems.
SolidFire was originally designed to solve the many storage problems in a multi-tenant environment, such as cloud and managed hosting, where storage resources are shared.

Tuesday's mentors:
So you want to start a food
company? Boulder is the right place—but how do you know that your idea will
meet changing consumer needs and demand? This session—presented by New Hope
Natural Media, which has been at the center of the natural, organic and healthy
products world for more than 35 years—will help you begin to answer that
question by providing a data-backed view into the macro forces and related
trends that are driving the greatest growth and new product opportunities in
food, natural products and consumer packaged goods.
Looney's experiences enduring the hardest and longest mountain bike races across the globe have accomplished more than an impressive list of accolades. She has sought out races that had never been done and in countries that most people wouldn't travel to alone. It was in those experiences that the value of pushing past the limits of the comfort zone became clear. "Trying new things completely shifts your frame of reference and dramatically improves self-confidence. You develop a wider capacity to experience life and will achieve more ambitious goals. We die a slow death of complacency by doing things the same way and not ever feeling that slight anxiety when trying something new." Sonya brings her experience as a mountain bike pioneer to life and shares how you unlock your true potential and break down barriers.
You're focused on your idea, your product, your innovation. But to attract investors and build a sustainable business you also need to focus on your brand and the strategic foundation that holds everything together.
This session will provide actionable insights on how to approach developing – or evolving - a clear and comprehensive brand strategy that will produce results. Learn the keys to immediate and long-term brand impact, success, and results from a panel of successful entrepreneurs and brand strategists.

Would your life be better if you were funnier?
The Humor Research Lab (HuRL) at the University of Colorado Boulder is collaborating with Boulder Startup Week attendees to make the world a more humorous place.
Aside from taking an improv or a stand-up comedy class, people have few options if they want to become funnier. Our proposal is simple: bring together entrepreneurs, programmers, scientists and comedians to create products—tech or otherwise—that help people learn and practice how to be funnier, thus enriching their lives and the lives of people around them.
Sponsored by the Deming Center at the Leeds School of Business, the Humor Hackathon will take place at Quick Left on Tuesday from 6-10 pm. Join us for beer, food, hacking, and a lot of laughs. Don't code? Don't worry. There will be plenty of ways that you can improve your funny bone. You can read more about Peter's quest to find what makes people funny in FiveThirtyEight.
Judges include scientists, comedians, startup and tech aficionados: Tara Calihman, Dr. Peter McGraw, and Norm Laviolette, Co-owner of the Improv Asylum and Laugh Boston.
more to be announced!
Sponsors include Cards Against Humanity, Winking Girl Salsa and the Deming Center. Imagine the prizes!

Did you know that founding teams with multiple co-founders have a greater chance of success? If you’re looking for someone to join your venture, looking for a venture to join, or open to either, sign up and attend our local, in-person Meetups to discover the perfect co-founder to round out your team. You’ll meet other entrepreneurs who are as energized as you are about launching a new business and who possess a wide range of unique experiences, ideas, and skills.
Unlike some networking events which lack structure and are cluttered with a large amount of people with varying intentions‚ our Meetups are laser-focused to help you find a co-founder.
The in-person events are a perfect complement to your online search at CoFoundersLab.com. After you register for an event, go to CoFoundersLab.com to find and pre-network with a few people whom you want to have a deeper conversation with at the event.
Let's talk shop, discuss your passion project, work through a tough problem, find your next hire, and raise a glass with Boulder's Tech Friends.

Type designer Erik Spiekermann has said that designing for the screen is just designing for bad paper. We’d argue it’s more like magic paper, but the point is that good designers have always embraced the limitations caused by tricky substrates—oftentimes even leading to innovation. Our respect for the classic principles of print design has merged with our love for the endless possibilities of technology to form the foundations of our approach to interactive design and development.

3 day passes to ONE Boulder Fitness also availible at basecamp!Over the past decade we have seen technology evolution accelerate at an unprecedented pace. New platforms, new solutions—even entirely new business models—are emerging so fast that it’s no wonder it’s so difficult for today’s start up businesses to keep up. And at the center of it all? The cloud….a term so overused and over-hyped that you can ask 10 different people what it is and get 10 different answers.
We'll unpack the core challenges that plague today’s new businesses and present real-world, actionable examples of businesses like yours that have leveraged Cloud IaaS to:
· Overcome the limitations of a small IT staff—in terms of numbers and technology savvy
· Reduce the cost and logistics associated with hardware acquisition
· Improve IT Governance & Control
· Deliver unprecedented flexibility & scale
· Make affordable business continuity a reality
